An engaging exploration of what it means to be asexual in a world that’s obsessed with sexual attraction, and what the ace perspective can teach all of us about desire and identity.
What exactly is sexual attraction, and what is it like to go through life not experiencing it? What does asexuality reveal about gender roles, about romance and consent, and the pressures of society? This accessible examination of asexuality shows that the issues that aces face - confusion around sexual activity, the intersection of sexuality and identity, navigating different needs in relationships - are the same conflicts that nearly all of us will experience. Through a blend of reporting, cultural criticism, and memoir, Ace addresses the misconceptions around the “A” of LGBTQIA and invites everyone to rethink pleasure and intimacy.
Journalist Angela Chen creates her path to understanding her own asexuality with the perspectives of a diverse group of asexual people. Vulnerable and honest, these stories include a woman who had blood tests done because she was convinced that “not wanting sex” was a sign of serious illness, and a man who grew up in a religious household and did everything “right”, only to realize after marriage that his experience of sexuality had never been the same as that of others. Disabled aces, aces of color, gender-nonconforming aces, and aces who both do and don’t want romantic relationships all share their experiences navigating a society in which a lack of sexual attraction is considered abnormal. Chen’s careful cultural analysis explores how societal norms limit understanding of sex and relationships and celebrates the breadth of sexuality and queerness.

Just like every other made up victim group category, all this means is more votes for Democrats. Seriously, every single left wing political book says the exact same thing. They have zero diversity of thought.

Haven’t listened to it but dude… It’s about sexuality, if you think that’s political it’s your problem.
April 6th, 2021
Stop lying. This is all politics and you know it.

Just because your victim group is fictional and delusional doesn’t mean there are no victims. It just isn’t you. Or, if all you’re meeting are ‘aces’ in your personal life, it probably is you. Less politics, more reality. You’ll find you are not the victim you think you are.

I love made up victim classes and I love this book too.
Imagine needing hundreds of pages to explain “some people don’t enjoy sex” and then hundreds more to pretend that this has some wider significance?
Well, you no longer need to imagine it because it’s been done in real life for you!
And what a page turner (or in this case virtual tape forwarder) this isn’t.

omg thank you so much for uploading this I was looking for it everywhere

@InsaneCrazyMad
This book isn’t for you either. You’re not asexual, you’re an incel. Massive difference.
@GordonCoon
Same goes for you. You don’t know any women anyway, so none of this concerns you.
April 6th, 2021
Lol @tenbenson, he said “incel” so it must be true. Lol.
What is it with you lefties? Your girlfriends and mothers are always delighted to meet and service a real conservative man, while you weep and play with your PS4.
And as for me? I’m in a gay relationship, the number of women I know won’t change how much I am getting laid old chap.
April 6th, 2021
Why is this book so controversial? I don’t understand. It’s actually quite good and not all that political.
@gordon asexual people are not made up. I am gay and asexual and I am right here. I expect better from other queer people; not to marginalize people from their own damn communities.
People said that gays are made up and being gay is a choice and they can be made straight only if administered enough shocks. It never stops. I do not understand how you can pick and choose what identities exist and what don’t.

Triple lol. I didn’t say people who don’t have sex were made up, I said that their victim status was.
If you stop being a hysterical plonker, it may be easier to read in the future. Or not. Leftists never seem to read very much before acting the fool.

Thanks for sharing, sounds interesting.

It doesn’t sound very arousing, one way or the other.

@GordonCoon
Have you ever thought to yourself, even just for a second, “wow… I am a deeply unpleasant human”?
I imagine not. In all seriousness though, you might want to reflect a little about who you are and how you choose to conduct yourself.

As a person on the asexuality spectrum, I’m quite dumbfounded why some people are reacting to the existence of this book so rudely and negatively. I thought there would be some wholesome comments, but what I see are mostly hateful comments from trolls. There’s no reason for such comments. There’s nothing wrong with this book at all.

Is this how conservatives talk? Hatefully even when hate is completely baseless? Asexuality is not a “victim class”, it’s a sexual orientation, comprising of the asexual spectrum. If you choose to be salty about books written about it for some unknown reason, maybe you don’t even know what books actually are.

It was quite a nice read for me, being on the asexuality spectrum myself. Hope such works will improve positive ace visibility. ^_^
